MATE MASIE, is a West African philosophy, that means “What I hear, I Keep.”
This project has been created to provide HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted disease (STDs) prevention education to Black youth ages 15 to 24, in ways that are engaging, immediately relevant and fun. The project will ensure that youth participants have many opportunties to develop their confidence, as well as strengthen other important life skills, such as conflict-resolution and healthy decision-making.
Along with providing youth participants with an experience that will last a life-time, this project will:
Provide youth with a personalized tool-kit filled up with items that will support their personal and professional dreams.
Improve the quality of life that youth participants experience by creating lots of opportunities for participants to access education that will support them to make informed decisions, learn new life skills, socialize with like-minded peers, as well as, provide them with much-needed access to culturally relevant resources and professional mentors.
Support youth participants to pursue their goals and dreams by actively engaging them in the process of career and life development which will focus on strengthening their self-confidence/esteem in ways that celebrate their identity as Black youth.
Reduce the spread of HIV/STDs in Black youth communities by supporting them to explore and practice responding to life in a healthy and positive fashion.
